Loved this so much. This post is coming at a really pivotal time for me right now as I begin to transition out of my 10+ year career in advertising and into the unknown. It has taken me years and many meditative moments, retreats and therapy sessions to start to fully realize you are not your job. I know it's common to think that your job is your life in most developed countries, but especially being American, that hits home even harder. Productivity and your job is intrinsically tied to self worth here, especially in the big cities like New York. Living there for 15 years made me a work hard, play hard beast and ultimately, that was not for me anymore either so I appreciate your story about going through that same transition yourself. Now that my life is quieter in Connecticut the balance has been better, but I'm now ready to continue moving forward and to chip off the part of myself that needed my job and success in it so badly to keep my identity intact. We are all so much more than that. I can't wait to read/listen/experience more of your art and I hope to contribute more of my own to the world in whatever way that pans out soon, too. <3
Aw thanks so much for sharing this Lauren and good for you! It’s really hard to separate yourself from your job especially in work driven cities like NYC and London. I’m excited to hear what is next for you! And thank you for supporting my writing. 😊
Love this Louise, especially the voiceover ☺️ I would like to propose that your creative exploits are in fact extremely advantageous - doing things we love, that fill our cup and make us feel joyful not only have an impact on those around us, but also helps us to navigate the highs and more challenging lows you mention. Looking forward to reading more 🙂
Thanks Nikki, glad you liked it. I wonder how useful the voiceover is this being a writing platform but a few people have said they enjoy listening to it. It’s very true I feel like it’s making an impact even now just knowing I have something to put my creativity into. Thank you! Looking forward to reading yours later.
